Must Have Jazz Albums...the Wax or CD

Here are an additional "Must Have" Jazz Albums that should be included in your stack...well at least in mine. Not a top ten list for sure because there are many more to come that could have been included on this list. Heading towards 100 would be nice. Well here goes..

Freddie Hubbard - First Light

A truely fantastic jazz album from one of the greats. One of the foremost albums in my rack and I remember the mad rush to pick it up when we found out it was available. The record shop ran out of albums two hours after delievery...we had to wait an extra day to buy. Freddie Hubbard on Trumpet, Jack DeJohnette on drums, Ron Carter on bass, Richard Wyands on piano, Geogre Benson on guitar, Airto Moreira on percussions, Hubert Laws on flute. Recorded on CTI in 1971.

McCoy Tyner - Echoes of a Friend

This album was dedicated to John Coltrane by Tyner as a tribute to his protege' with great admiration. Featuring the compositions of Trane: Naima, Promise, My Favorite Things, The Discovery and Folks...a Must have for your Rack

Chuck Mangione - Children of Sanchez

A wonderful and pleasant album by this Master of Jazz. Featuring Chuck Mangione on piano, flugelhorn, Charles Meeks on bass, Grant Geissman on guitar, Chris Vadala on soprano saxophone, James Bradley Jr. on drums...and many others contributed to this album.

Miles Davis & John Coltrane Wing of my Rack

I decided to include this section for Miles & Coltrane because they have dominated my jazz collection for some years now. I would not expect the same in everybodies jazz rack but these four classics are a "must" in my jazz opinion. There WILL be more to come.

Let's start with this Miles Davis tribute to the legendary boxer Jack Johnson who was challenged by the "Great White Hope" James Jeffres in a heavyweight match in 1910 that drew the attention of the entire world.
